The dabbawala system is a lunch delivery service in Mumbai that has operated for over a century. Dabbawalas collect homemade lunches in tiffin boxes from homes in the morning and use a complex sorting and delivery system via bicycle and train to deliver the boxes to offices by lunchtime each day. Despite having over 175,000 deliveries daily and being mostly illiterate, the dabbawalas achieve nearly flawless service with an extremely low error rate of less than one mistake per 6 million deliveries. Their efficient supply chain system has received international recognition.
