I am excited at the prospect of integrating technology from the life science and engineering field. Back at A*STAR, I designed a colorimetric cell-cell fusion assay to detect virus entering a cell. If a cell joined with another cell, I could quantitate that and showed that two or more cells has fused together. Subsequently I created changes to the SAR-CoV Spike protein to study the key to cell entry and therefore learnt about their pattern of infection. At the polytechnic, my students and I co-develop a water drone with sensors that capture water quality data such as dissolved oxygen and transmit that information to anyone in the world.
