Remember how difficult watercolors were to deal with as a child? The chance of actually creating art
instead of wet, colored paper was slim to none for most of us, but when it's done right, watercolors
can create truly ethereal landscapes and forms. Maureen Kerstein does just that with her new
exhibit, quot;Impressions.quot; In each of her pieces resides a degree of tranquility that could never be
achieved with straight lines; the atmospheric jade textures of quot;Ingenious, quot; the ruby red waves in
the tide of quot;Melodious, quot; and the less abstract depiction of nature in quot;Sunflowersquot; are just a few
examples of her command over non-linear art. Light and shadow are revealed as one entity, a
single fluid mixture that accounts for most of the psychedelic qualities of Kerstein's work. Like
poems doused in metaphors, the paintings require a bit of imagination in order to see actual
pictures, but in that creative void is where their beauty is most apparent. - Christopher Miller
