It is widely acknowledged among Investors Group Consultants and employees that the role of Division Director is one of the most challenging there is. And yet Shafik Hirani, Division Director, Calgary Bow River, makes it look easy. Setting enviable records for NBC and T.O.P. points year after year including six consecutive T.O.P. wins, two Business Achievement Awards and the T.O.Peterson Long-term Achievement Award Shafik has consistently earned a spot among the best on several of Investors Groups recognition lists. For the second time in his career, Shafik was named National Division Director of the Year. With his sights set on continually raising the bar higher, it shouldnt be surprising that Shafik was set to make a bold move. But very few could have predicted exactly what his next move would be. Arguably one of the most talked-about moments at this years Leaders Forum was Shafiks surprise announcement from the stage that he would be stepping down from the Division Director role he has filled for the past 13 years. I truly wasnt expecting to win again.I was standing on that stage in front of 1,000 people I admire and respect it filled me with joy, but I was also petrified,Shafik said.I have to admit, I choked up when delivering my decision after such a warm standing ovation. Shafik explained that while his role as Division Director, first in Calgary South and now in Calgary Bow River, brings him a great deal of pride and satisfaction, he must continue to live by his philosophy: There is always another level. He will transition out of the Division Director role throughout 2013.As for the Consultants in his division, Shafik said hes lucky to have led the best team in the country for seven years. Its amazing how many number ones we have accumulated. What it comes down to is its got to be a really special team who can do this.
