My name is Shakira Gilchrist. I was born Shakira McGill and raised in a small town in South Carolina named Marion. Marion is about 45 minutes away from Myrtle Beach and the North Carolina state line. I graduated from Marion High School with the class of 2000 and joined the US Navy. I was granted a discharge in 2001 and began my tenure at the HBCU Morris College in Sumter, SC under the leadership of the prestigious Dr. Luns C. Richardson.
