My work has three main motivations:
1) Guided by the belief that a critical mass of people can never be lifted out of poverty without a well-functioning private sector, my work is motivated by understanding how companies can thrive where institutions are not well-developed, particularly as it relates to access to financing.
2) I am also continually inspired by the ability of women to overcome barriers in the business world, and study how this relates to financing for new firms.
3) In the popular press, I am impassioned by explaining complex economic concepts in simple ways to a new generation of information consumers and uncovering the myths we are told by politicians and the media us...
