I am interested in understanding the effects of forest disturbance, climate change, elevated CO2 and air pollution on carbon sources and sinks at broad temporal and spatial scales. While forests provide climate change mitigation benefits by storing and sequestering atmospheric CO2, managing forested ecosystem to continuously sequester carbon in the long term requires understanding how future climate change and disturbance alter species composition, forest structure, and tree growth and mortality across time scales ranging from decades to centuries.
