design your Ipod/Phone case:
YOUR Ipod/phone case MUST BE:
揃 Produced from 2 pieces ofMM x...MM felt.
揃 On the theme of Pop Art .
揃 Use the CAD / CAM to develop / print the design

揃 Tested to make sure it works
揃 Finished to a high standard
WHAT ARE THE KEYPOINTS OF THE BRIEF AND SPECIFICATION?
TASK ANALYSIS
What colours?
What textures/
patterns?
What materials?
What components
/fastenings?
How will it effect
the environment?
How will it be
made?
Who will it be for?
How much will
it cost?
How will you check
and ensure quality?
Picture Name Use
Complete the table to show the names and uses of some frequently used equipment.

ANALYSING EXISTING PRODUCTS
Aesthetics what can you say
about
how the product looks or is appealing?
(colour, texture, shape, pattern etc)
Cost How much is the
product being sold for?
How much might it have cost to make?
Customer Who & what type of person
do you think the product is aimed at?
Environment In what ways might the
Manufacture of the product have harmed
the environment? How long do you think it will last?
How can it be disposed of?
Safety How might this product cause
harm- (in use and in manufacture?)
Size What size is the product?
How might the size affect its use (what if it was smaller / larger?)
Function What is the product used for?
Will it perform well to its function?
Manufacture What methods,
equipment,
techniques, tools have been used to make the
product? Draw or stick your
existing product here

USING THE HEAT PRESS & H&S
What can we use a heat press for?
What temperature should the heat press
be on for your work?
How long will you press your design for?
Copy and complete the table below.
Hazard Prevention

DESIGN IDEAS
Personal comment likes / dislikes & why
Construction detail how will it be produced and with
what equipment
 Materials- to be used
Dimensions / size- How big should it be?
Appearance- What colour, texture, patterns and how?
H&S- issues for customer & manufacturer
Quality- How do we ensure a top quality outcome
Quantity- how could we make 100 products exactly the
same?
Environment- How will the product effect the environment

CAM
 What does CAM stand for?
Here are some examples of CAM machines:
Cutting machine, sewing machine, embroidery
& knitting machine, fabric printers,
plotters/cutters, pressing machines.
What are the advantages of CAM?
What are the disadvantages of CAM?
Which CAM machines would you use if you had to
make 1000 phone cases identically?
CAD
 What does CAD stand for?
Designers use computers to: Create displays ,
supplement drawing by hand, create slide shows, digital
photography, video making, sampling and designing.
What programs could you use to do the above tasks?
Use a computer programme to recreate the line drawing of a
cushion. Copy the design 3 times and fill in the colour,
making 3 different colour ways. Which colourway is most
effective and why?

has your product met the
criteria?
 What do other people think
about your design work and
final outcome?
 What techniques or skills have
you learnt or refined?

in the project?
 Highlight a target on your
levels/ assessment sheet.
 Have all my pages got
titles and dates?
 Are my drawings
annotated?
 Have I presented my
work carefully?
