I want to help enable the academic community to benefit from cloud computing on appropriate terms. This includes looking at "open cloud" technologies such as OpenStack or Ceph, studying legal and governance requirements of academic institutions as well as their strategic options, and understanding commercial and other offerings in the cloud space.
Between 1995 and 2011, I performed design, implementation, and operational work on IP networks, participated in standardization activities in the IETF, and developed software in the network management and traffic accounting areas. It has been exciting and satisfying to watch the Internet grow from novelty to planetary infrastructure.
