The document summarizes the CIC Caprinae Atlas of the World, a two-volume reference work on wild sheep, goats, and their relatives. The atlas contains over 1000 photographs, 130 distribution maps, and was praised by prominent reviewers for its comprehensive coverage of Caprinae taxonomy, conservation, and management. It is intended to serve as a critical resource for various stakeholders interested in Caprinae, from conservationists to hunters. The authors invested a decade of research to complete the exhaustive reference.

This is what some prominent reviewers of the
CIC Caprinae Atlas of the World wrote:
Prof. Marco Festa-Bianchet, University of Sherbrooke,
Canada, Chair, IUCN Caprinae Specialist Group: This book
shows where unclear taxonomy hinders the classification,
conservation and management of Caprinae. Its maps and
photographs will be a cornerstone of much future work on
the ecology, taxonomy and conservation of these species.
Prof. Raul Valdez, New Mexico State University, USA:
the seminal reference work for the general public,
specialists and hunters.
Prof. Sandro Lovari, University of Siena, Italy, Past Chair,
IUCN Caprinae Specialist Group: anyone who is
interested in Caprinae conservation, anyone who wants to
conserve and/or hunt them, anyone who is in love with the
evocative, unique landscapes where they dwell should own
this book.
John J. Jackson, III, Chairman Conservation Force, USA:
This is the atlas many of us have been waiting for the
coverage of the book includes range, management,
genetics whatever you desire; it is the ultimate
information source. Never has there been such a resource
book.
Craig Boddington: This is the most complete and most
definitive work on the subject ever compiled It will long
serve as a critical reference for conservationists, hunters,
and naturalists, both professional and amateur.

2. Caprinae taken in their natural habitats and close-up photos
of horns and skulls from world-renowned museum
collections. The 130 detailed color distribution maps were
drawn specifically for this book by renowned cartographer
Mike Shand, University of Glasgow. Bodo Meier, German
wildlife aquarellist par excellence created the majestic
markhor and argali aquarelles on the dust covers (standard
edition) and the frontispieces (collectors edition).
The meticulously researched CIC Caprinae Atlas of the
World presents an overview on the distribution ranges of the
wild sheep, goats and their relatives; their physical
appearance, life history, conservation status and sustainable
use and addresses a wide variety of stakeholders: policy
makers who create the administrative and legislative
frameworks for Caprinae conservation; field researchers and
taxonomists who are at work to fill knowledge gaps; public,
communal and private landowners on whose lands wild
Caprinae dwell; management authorities who need to find
holistic conservation solutions; hunters who are getting
intense emotional rewards from pursuing wild sheep and
goats and their relatives; and last but not least the women
and men who follow the tracks of wild sheep and goats to
admire and photograph them in their wild and magnificent
mountain homes.
HM Juan Carlos I of Spain, a passionate hunter and a
Patron of the International Council for Game and Wildlife
Conservation, wrote the prologue to the Atlas and
recognized the resulting two tomes as a magnificent and
unique set of books describing the glorious landscapes and
game of the wild mountain regions of the world. The two
authors presented Juan Carlos I, with the number 1 set of
the special leather-bound sponsors edition of the Atlas.
