SMARCOS PHILIPS RESEARCH LABS CHI2011 Paper SitcoachSmarcos Eu
?
- The document describes SitCoach, a mobile application that uses a phone's accelerometer to monitor users' physical activity and sedentary behavior. It aims to increase awareness of prolonged sitting and encourage taking regular breaks.
- A pilot study with 8 office workers found low awareness of the importance of sitting breaks initially. The application was usable but break reminders may not be the most effective strategy on their own due to perceptions of external constraints.
- Future work should focus on both raising awareness of sedentary risks and providing insights into personal sitting patterns to motivate behavior change.
Multimodal Presentation of Local Danger Warnings for Drivers: A Situation-Dep...Smarcos Eu
?
This study examined how advanced driver assistance systems should communicate local danger warnings to drivers under different driving situations. Drivers rated the usefulness of 8 warning communication modes that varied the level of assistance and modality in 5 situations. Results showed that the perceived usefulness depended on both the communication mode and driving situation. Warnings were considered most useful in low visibility situations and least useful in highly demanding situations. The findings provide guidance on adapting warning presentation to the driving context.

We will describe the science and tools to build experiences that would drive commerce through custom experience and social media, and help sellers, shoppers, and the enthusiasts.
