WHEN USING RUBBER GOODS
Quality of Rubber goods deteriorate
With age (prolonged use)
Exposure to heat, light, moisture,
and chemicals
Should not be creased, folded or
tied
Never use any pins to fix them
Should never be dried by artificial
heat, stoves
CONT
Should be free from greases or
acid
When storing  no two surfaces
come in contact with each
other
Disinfection and autoclaving
can be done carefully
Cleaning of mackintoshes
Spread on a table or on a flat
surface
Rub the upper surface with soap
and water  use cloth or towel
Turn the other side and repeat
the process above
Wash both sides under running
water
CONT.
For disinfection  use 1:40 Lysol
Hang them on a horizontal bar in
shade to dry
When both surfaces are dried well
- apply French chalk powder
Store properly
Flat or rolled and never folded
No contact two surfaces each other
Dark cool place
Care of rubber gloves
Gloves are Usually disposable
Gloves may be sterile or
clean
Dont use unnecessarily
CONTI.
If reuse
Wash with soap and cold water. out
side first and then inverted and wash
Rinse well with water out side and
inside
Hang them to dry
When both sides are dried powder
inside and out side
Pack properly and send to autoclave
Care of rubber tubes
Wash them under running water
Allowing the water to run
through eye
Clean inside of tube with
swabed stick
Clean them with soap and warm
water to remove dirt and grease
CONT.
Boil the tubes for 5 min (in
the boiling water)
Dry them by hanging
Autoclave if necessary
Store in a container
lengthwise - dont bend
Care of hot water bottle, ice cap
and ice collar
Empty the container
immediately after use
Wash and dry as other rubber
goods
Hang the bag up side down to
drain the water
Covers  send laundry for
washing

CARE OF BEDPANS
Before empty the bedpan inspect
the contents
Empty the bedpan in to lavatory pan
Rinse the bedpan with cold water
under force
Wash with soap and hot water- use
brush and suitable detergent
Disinfect bedpan  1:40 Lysol for
1hour
Dry and keep on the bedpan rack
CARE OF URINALS
Dont leave urine for long
standing in the urinals
Avoid deposits or stains in the
urinals
Cleaning and disinfection 
same way as bedpans
CARE OF SPUTUM MUG
Non infectious sputum  empty in to
the lavatory pan
Infectious sputum (ex : tuberculous
client)  disinfection before emptying
to the lavatory pan with 1:40 LYSOL
Clean and disinfect as same as bedpans
Add small quantity of antiseptic lotion
before giving to the client to avoid
sticking

Waste bins should be emptied 2 to
3 times a day
WEEKLY CLEANING
Roof and walls should be cleaned
All furniture should be scrubbed,
washed and carbolised
Ceiling cleaned with damp dusting
Floor should be washed
Anything broken , get repaired by
proper channel
ANNUAL CLEANING
Colour washing, painting,
polishing
Major repairs to be get done
