AND TRIANGLE WIRE

OVERVIEW:
This invention is registered to the Turkish Patent Office by 31/7/2013 day,16.17:34
hour and 2013/09303 number on the authors name.
The brackets systems that are used nowadays had evolved since 1970 and have many
varieties under different names as Andrews Straight-Wire , Begg, Roth, Alexander, MBT,
Damon, lingual orthodontics and so on. But the cross cut of the slots of all the brackets
have a rectangular design (Figure 1), and as a result the wires that are utilized inside this
slots are either round or quadrangular (Figure 2)(3). This old system is known as Edge
Wise (Figure 1)(Edward H.Angle and Tweet) (1-2)but this new invention changes the
quadrangular cross section of the bracket slot and constitutes a new system based on
triangular shape (Figure 3).the new bracket to be used in this new system will be named
TRİANGULAR SLOT BRACKET , the crosscut of the wires to be used will only be triangular.
(Figure 4-5)
DEFINITION:
Since the number of the bracket slot surface decrease to 3 from 4, the friction
between the wire and the slot will be diminished, because the contact surface is
decreased by 20-25 % (figure 6).
All of the wires like Nickel Titanium, Stainless Steel (SS), Beta Titanium (TMA) or
similar that are currently used today all have quadrangular or round crosscut (figure2).
On the new system, the round crosscut wires will completely be out of use (figure 4).
Compared to quadrangular wires the triangular crosscut wires will bring an economy
around 50% by weight and volume (figure 6).
The new triangular crosscut system will diminish the orthodontic treatment time
also. Because the currently used orthodontic treatment methodology, changes the
thickness of the wires “variable radius method” is proceeded in two steps. On the first
step that’s the alignment phase round wires are used later quadrangular wires are used
to achieve root movement. The wires are used with increasing radius in order and
therefore needs several wires. On the first stage the visible part of the teeth that are
crowns are brought into an alignment, later on the second stage quadrangular wires are
utilized to provide root parallelism. This method that can be summarized as Tip-Correct is
known as “Begg Technique”. The Begg technique elongates the treatment time. The new
triangular slot design does not use Begg technique. Since it starts directly with root
movement without Tip-Correct one stage treatment is provided Figure 4-5) The Begg
technique is abandoned and this is a new treatment methodology.
With triangular slot brackets, again variable radius ethos is used (figure 7). During
treatment that is commenced by thin wires root movement is directly started on the
teeth. With the increasing thickness I time the old two stage treatment methodology
changes into single stage and the treatment time is diminished. Therefore due to nearly
half time and the less number of wires used 50% economy can be achieved.
RESULT:
With the diminishing prices of the total material cost the treatment costs will also
diminish and people with low income that need orthodontic treatment can be able to
afford treatment. Especially the diminished treatment time coupled with 100% increase
in patient and dentist comfort makes this technique priceless.
With the fast developing technology surgeons and dental implant manufacturers
discored the TRIANGULAR -CONIC CONNECTION and with this invent the importance of
the shape triangle has been obvious. It’s time for orthodontics to use this triangle shape.
