- Surgery not common, most treatments herbal/home remedies
Renaissance medicine:
- Advances in anatomy from dissections allowed better understanding of body
- Move away from supernatural causes towards scientific observation
- Printing press spread medical knowledge
- Surgery became more accepted and common
Both:
- Herbal/home remedies still widely used
- Limited understanding of germs and infection
- Surgeons and barber-surgeons separate from physician guilds
