100 Eaton facilities achieve zero waste-to-landfill milestone

Eaton's power distribution facility in Costa Rica has become the first site in South America to consistently achieve zero waste to landfill status. The hydraulics facility in Warwick, UK also achieved this milestone in August 2016 by diligently improving waste management. The distribution center in Duncan, SC reduced landfill waste from 504.9 tons between 2013-2016 to zero tons since August 2016 by increasing recycling and waste-to-energy efforts. Eaton has over 50 other facilities across its business groups that have also become zero waste to landfill.

We didnt set out to become a zero waste-to-landfill facility it naturally happened as a result of doing things right in terms of waste management, said Maria Matamoros, manager, Environment Health and Safety, Costa Rica. We realized we had an opportunity to be a ZWTL site after a couple of improvement processes in our waste management procedures.

All Rights Reserved.. 6 SUCCESS STORY Hydraulics facility Warwick, United Kingdom The hydraulics facility in Warwick, U.K. successfully became a zero waste-to-landfill site in August 2016 thanks to the diligence and perseverance of their dedicated waste reduction team. The Warwick team is continuing to look for ways to improve its waste management program, such as installing a bailer to facilitate cardboard handling and looking for new opportunities to redirect waste from incineration to recycling.
- 7. 息 2017 Eaton. All Rights Reserved.. 7 SUCCESS STORY Duncan/Spartanburg distribution center South Carolina, USA Back in January 2013, nearly 100% of the sites waste was going to the landfill. Between May 2013 and July 2016 the Duncan/Spartanburg distribution center sent 504.9 tons of waste for landfill disposal. Since August 2016, the site has not landfilled any waste keeping an average of 13 tons of waste per month out of the landfill. Wastes that were previously sent to landfill are now segregated for recycling and waste-to-energy purposes.
