  1. By typing www.vdab.be you get to the vdab-site and to Mijn Loopbaan. Here you have to register for. You do not have to register as a job seeker, just as a user of Mijn Loopbaan. Once you are in, you look for Beroepsori谷ntatie
  2. This is what you get then. It is the product of a project we realised together with National Education, a Company called CASCAiD from the UK and the French organisation INOIP, that was dismantled during the projects course. You canb answer several questionnaires and you can do that according to your own free will. You can stop whenever you want and pick it up again a couple of days later. There are questionnaires on interests and on key competencies.
  3. If you only do these questionnaires no profession is removed from the results. The remaining number is still the same: 558 occupations. The sorting here is the one based on the overall weight. Since no professional competencies are filled in, no levels are chosen, the result looks rather odd because of the mixture of high skilled and low skilled occupations close together. So you better do a little bit more in the instrument.
  4. You can start filling in your competencies. You can look them up in a structured way or in a free way (by reference words)
  5. Once you added all your competencies, you get the list of what you ticked on the front page of the ORIENT file.
  6. Further down the first tab page you can indicate that you have health problems or that there are some working circumstances you do not want or cannot have.
  7. And last you can add your studies, (diploma). Mark my words: I say you can, I never say you have to.
  8. This is the result of the completion of this page.
  9. After having filled in the first page (my profile) none of the 558 occupations have been removed from the results. This only happens when you start filling in the second page, your preferences.
  10. Hier you can tick off those things that yoou do not want to see or taken into account. Eg: the level of the careers, from very low level (you do not have to know anything at all or very little to do this function up to very high level (university or management careers) enad everything in between is split up into three levels. You can also tick off sectors you do not want to work in.
  11. At the bottom of the page you can find types of work. Here again you tick off what kind of work yoyu do not want to do.
  12. As you can see the number of occupations dropped to 134. Are these all suitable occupations? Not at all: I presume that the first 25 occupations may be worth exploring. If you are really good at a lot of things, it may rise to the first 40 occupations.
  13. One can sort the matching occupations by interests or by soft skills or by manual and mental skills (the hand-icon). Once you have sorted them by any of these three, the weight of other icons is no longer considered.
  14. Let us pick out one occupation and have a look at the feedback page.
  15. For example: the key competencies. As you can see, there are essential ones and very important ones (2 colours) and the most important thing: you can still change them on this page. This is a green icon, which means that I do very well for the key competencies for that occupation. The interest side is orange, meaning that I do not live up to the expected interests for this occupation. But as you can see I do not seem to do so well at all for the simple competencies, because here I see a red icon. Let us have a look.
  16. Indeed quit a number of competencies I lack. I can add them to what I know (+ sign) or I can decide to learn them (booklet-icon).
  17. There is a small comment on studies and training. One can look up the necessary training for this competency/profession.
  18. The last icon is also green and indicates that there are a lot of job offers for this occupation. Clicking on the link will show you the current vacancies for that occupation. As you click on that link you are referred to the vacancy selection system of VDAB, which means that you are temporarily out of ORIENT.
  19. Within a second of your click on the link you see all current job offers for that profession in front of you. Any vacancy you click obn, will open up and you can start exploring it thoroughly.
  20. The last page is your ambitions. Here you can add any career of your dreams and have a look at the results for that particular career.
  21. In the example I added mason to my ambitions and as one can see I do n,ot score that bad for it, though there are some aspects that I do not like very much (climbing ladders eg), and there are some key skills (soft skills that I would need to improve.
  22. The second part of the page your ambition is the one of competencies. Lets return to the page with lacking competencies and what we can do for them.
  23. The upper competency will follow the way that is indicated by the arrow, if you click on the booklet-icon at the right side of the competency. It is moved to the things you want to learn. See on next slide.
  24. And this becomes the start of your action plan, that you can discuss with the counsellor. Covering these actions with a timing will provide you with a strict action plan and will help you to become what you want or have the job of your dreams. But do not forget, in every job, there will be plenty of work to be done. Jobs that pay well for doing nothing are VERY scarce. But if you feel good in what you do or if you like very much what you do you might not see it as a job but rather as a hobby, that pays off.
