Superlative adjectives are used to compare more than two people, places, or things. Their form depends on the number of syllables in the adjective. Adjectives of one syllable take -est, those of two syllables ending in -y take -iest, and those of two or more syllables take most + the adjective. Rules are also provided for spelling changes when adding -est, such as doubling final consonants or changing -y to -i. Examples illustrate the use and formation of superlative adjectives.
