This document provides information on treating spinal injuries in conscious and unconscious casualties. For conscious casualties, do not move them from the position found, reassure them, and support the head in a neutral position until help arrives. For unconscious casualties, keep them still in the position found, hold the head still, and if the airway may be blocked, place them in the recovery position using a log roll. The golden rule is to not move the casualty unless absolutely necessary to prevent further injury to the spine or spinal cord until they can be urgently taken to the hospital.
