The document summarizes a school district's 2009-2014 strategic plan at the mid-point of implementation. It outlines strategic goal areas such as curriculum, student achievement, closing the achievement gap, and meeting holistic student needs. For each goal, it provides updates on initiatives undertaken to address the goals, such as new curriculum programs, counseling services, technology resources, and solar panel installations. The document concludes by noting plans for the remainder of implementing the strategic plan.

#12: Updates Curriculum in Language Arts (Reading & Writing),Math, science, technology & engineering. . .
#31: The Strategic Plan Goal related to Facilities is to Provide High Quality Facilities While Reducing the Impact on the Environment.I will address two of the activities we have been pursuing under this goal the first of these is to Implement a Strategic Energy PlanIn June of this Year, the Board gave final approval to a new Board Policy the Comprehensive Environmental Impact Reduction Policy. We have begun implementation. The policy addresses a wide range of LMSD activities to include energy use, solid waste management, water and soil conservation, air quality management, and purchasing. The Policy seeks to reduce our impact on the environment while educating our students in the importance of environmental stewardship at all ages, in accordance with relevant academic standards. Some notable recent achievements are: recycling study done at two high schools by ________ and Installation of solar panels as a demonstration project at Penn Valley.
#33: We have completed lighting upgrades at Downs Gym and the Welsh Valley gyms and are about to begin similar upgrades at Belmont Hills and Cynwyd, to include the parking garage. We are planning for boiler upgrades at several schools over the next few years. These are boilers that are coming to the end of their useful lives and we will replace them with more energy efficient types. We have completed preliminary Energy Star Benchmarking assessments and are refining the analysis. And finally, we are about to complete the first year of participating in a Demand Response program at our two high schools. This is a program that pays us to reduce our demand during times of high electrical usage. We had our first opportunity to participate in this on July 22d of this year.
#34: Lastly , we continue our program of using alternative fuel vehicles. We have completed the replacement of our initial purchase of CNG buses and are continuing to plan for replacements as buses reach the end of their useful lives. We were successful in obtaining a grant to help with the cost of some of these buses. As you know, the high school modernization projects included replacing the CNG stations at each high school. Our program of using buses powered by natural gas is going strong.Additionally, in the last year we have begun using bio-diesel in all of our diesel vehicles. We were able to take advantage of a state grant awarded to a group of school districts to offset the additional cost of this fuel.
