This study examined factors that influence youth sport and physical activity participation. 163 ninth grade students completed a survey about their participation levels and preferences. Results showed that fun and enjoyment were the top reasons for involvement. High participators were more likely to get involved and have lower perceived barriers. They preferred a friendly but strict coach with more control, while low participators preferred less control. Both groups valued social interaction and family support. The study provides insights for designing youth programs and activities that youth find most appealing.
