  • #2: Founded in 1984 under the Schafer administration A 501 (c.) (3) nonprofit organization First project brought the first urban Outward Bound program to Baltimore.
  • #3: As Parks & People grew as an organization, it took on many major projects such as playing a leadership role in the development of the Gwynns Falls Trail and creating with US Forestry Service and others a nationally replicated urban forestry model. You’ll learn more about many of these programs in a moment. While Parks & People’s mission guides its work, all of its efforts seeks to unite the people and green spaces of Baltimore in One Park.

  • #21: For decades Parks & People has worked with USFS and others to enhance the tree canopy. A 2007 analysis of Baltimore’s Urban Tree Canopy (UTC) conducted by the USFS with partners including P&P found a serious tree canopy deficiency in Baltimore with only a 27 percent UTC city-wide. Ultimately this led to the City’s adoption of the tree canopy goal and the creation of TreeBaltimore. In Spring of 2013, P&P planted nearly 1,000 trees. Doubling that # in 2013 To keep pace with maintenance it is working with other nonprofits through the TreeKeepers program and with neighborhood groups to educate and engage more citizens in tree maintenance.
