This document summarizes the evolution of VRT's news asset management systems from 1953 to 2007. It describes how the systems transitioned from paper cards and film to digital databases and web interfaces. By 2007, the systems integrated Ardome and Basis+ for unified search across descriptions and content. This provided faster access to material across media, simultaneous access, and cross-media reuse while shortening delays for archiving news content.

Managing News Assets 2007: an archive solution – integration with Ardome & stand alone – descriptions are in Ardome as well (40 000 items) and connected (40.000 to the essence – updated webinterface for stand alone application ; Ardome interface is part of the integration p g – still good retrieval of material ; by 2 applications – one workflow (orderform iNews > Dart > Ardome > Avid)

Track of change (2) : legacy archive Starting with zero archive is no option – avoiding tape ingest bottleneck – digitalization of 2 years news /current affairs & 6 months sport = About 80 % of the reused material – has to start in advance (4 FTE / 1 year) – is the testcase of the system (integration problems)
