Abstract
Direction of Discussions on the Key Competence
in Developing the Music Curriculum

The purpose of the research is to discover the direction of discussions on the key competence
in developing the music curriculum. To do so, we reviewed the curriculum agendas related to key
competence and analyzed the cases in foreign countries which implement key competence-based
curriculum. Based on our review and analysis, we suggested the following direction. First, the
discussions about key competence should be focused on what is the key competence that can be
developed through music education instead of applying given key competence to music education.
Second, it is important to re-establish the significance and the details of key competence-based on
the curriculum in order to reflect key competence in the music curriculum. Third, the discussions
should come together with the discussions about practical ways for implementation at schools.
