This document provides information about the 2013 IAMA's Tearsheet Competition, including submission categories, judging criteria, rules, and deadlines. Staff are encouraged to electronically submit tearsheets and other materials from their best works across 10 categories by March 29, 2013 for consideration. Categories include things like single ads, sections, and self-promotion materials. Physical submissions are also accepted for some categories.

Black & White only. For each entry, submit a PDF version of full-page tearsheet. Judges will consider basic idea,
layout, copy, typography, headline, use of white space, and originality. Ad must be for a single advertiser.
Category 2:
Best Color Single Ad, Quarter Page and Under:
Color only. For each entry, submit a PDF version of full-page tearsheet. Judges will consider basic idea, layout, copy,
typography, headline, use of white space, color placement and originality. Ad must be for a single advertiser.
Category 3:
Best Black & White, Single Ad, Over a Quarter Page:
Black & White only. For each entry, submit a PDF version of full-page tearsheet. Judges will consider basic idea,
layout, copy, typography, headline, use of white space, and originality. Ad must be for a single advertiser.
Category 4:
Best Color Single Ad, Over a Quarter Page:
Color only. For each entry, submit a PDF version of full-page tearsheet. Judges will consider basic idea, layout, copy,
typography, headline, use of white space, color placement and originality. Ad must be for a single advertiser.
Category 5:
Special Event/Vendor Support Idea:
For each entry, submit entire section or page. Qualifying entries are separate, stand alone, pull-out sections or pages.
Judges will consider basic idea, originality, organization, development of theme in ads and creativity in section or pages.
Category 6:
Special Section/Niche Publication:
For each entry, submit entire section or niche publication. Qualifying entries are separate, stand alone, pull-out sections
or pages. Judges will consider basic idea, adaptability to other markets, organization, development of theme in the
section and on the publication cover.
Category 7:
Self-Promotion, Advertising, including Media and Marketing Material:
For each entry, submit a PDF version of a full-page tearsheet and/or entire media or marketing materials. Use this
category to demonstrate the way you promote your newspaper to generate new advertisers and revenue. Use of
ready-made ads or materials is unacceptable. Judges will consider basic idea, layout, copy, typography, headline,
use of white space and originality.
3. Category 8:
ROP Ad Series:
Black & White or color. For each entry, submit PDF versions of full page tearsheets of three or more individual ads for a
single advertiser in ROP that have a continuous theme. Judges will consider basic idea, layout, copy, typography,
headline, use of white space and originality. Ad must be for a single advertiser.
Category 9:
Ad Campaign Using Multiple Newspaper Products:
Single advertiser using two or more newspaper products (ie. audio text, on-line, other tie-in media) for ad campaign.
ROP and niche publications can be included.
Category 10:
Most Innovative Idea:
Use this category to submit an unique concept and/or design of an ad or section that you have sold with successful
results. For each entry, submit a PDF version of full page tearsheet and/or entire section. Judges will consider basic
idea, layout, copy, typography, headline, use of white space, color placement and originality.
Special Category:
Newspapers Fighting Cancer:
Sponsored by the Andrew E. Shapiro Cancer Foundation, this category includes any cancer-related features, sections,
specialty pages or web efforts. Send in PDF versions of tearsheets for this special category to show how your
newspaper is helping raise awareness and funds in the fight against cancer. Best entries will be showcased on the
foundation Web site as a way to share ideas of how newspapers can make a difference in their communities. There is
no entry fee or circulation division for this category.
