The Dixie Chicks were a popular country music band formed in 1989 consisting of sisters Martie and Emily Erwin and lead singer Natalie Maines. In 2003, Maines criticized President George W. Bush while on stage, stating they were ashamed he was from Texas, which sparked major backlash from country music fans and radio stations. Though the comment hurt their career, the band still had many loyal fans who supported their music. The document discusses the impact of Maines' comments, the band members' emotions, and the author's opinion that people should have moved on from the controversy long ago and allowed the Dixie Chicks to continue making music.
2. About the Dixie Chicks
The Dixie Chicks were a band of three women, sisters Martie Erwin
Maguire and Emily Erwin Robison, and Natalie Maines. Maines was
the lead singer of the group. The Dixie Chicks were a country music
band that first started in 1989, but did not become popular until
1998. They went on to produce many songs and preform many
concerts.
3. More About the Dixie Chicks
• Then at one concert in 2003 the lead singer announced that, "we
don't want this war, this violence, and we're ashamed that the
President of the United States (George W. Bush) is from Texas".
This caused some turmoil in the United States, but did not stop the
Dixie chicks from writing songs. They only came out with a few
songs after that performance and do not hold many, if
any, concerts anymore. Because of this statement about the
president they had people protesting outside their concerts and
music stores. People would buy their CD’s just to stomp on them.
Radio stations even stopped playing their music even when it was
requested by listners. Even though they made a mistake and some
people hate them they still have fans that love and admire them.
4. Picture of Emotion.
This picture is a bit
inappropriate, but it shows
the Dixie chicks state of
emotion.
5. What I feel about the Dixie Chicks
My personal opinion of the Dixie chicks is that I love their music, and I
wish that they would keep producing more music. I am disappointed
that because of one mistake that only one of the members made that
they all are suffering. I feel that what she said was her opinion and
everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
6. More of My Opinion
• I feel that there was a reason for it to be a big deal at the time, but I
also think that it should have blown over long ago. Natalie Maines
was caught up in the fact that our country was going to war and let
her mouth get away from her for a second. It was a mistake and its
over now so people should drop it and the Dixie Chicks should write
more music.
