The newsletter provides information on the fall break schedule for the Lory Student Center (LSC) and events occurring in November. It announces that the Grand Ballroom floor will undergo sanding and refinishing during the breaks to address problems from initial installation. Strict humidity guidelines must be followed while work is completed. It also highlights catering employee Elliott Roberts and memorializes Jozenn Walters who recently passed away. The newsletter concludes with a reminder to review emergency procedures.

Ballroom Floor Refinishing!
The Grand Ballroom floor will get sanded and refinished this fall/winter during the breaks. During the Thanksgiving Break the
floor will be sanded down to remove the ridges. After Commencements in December the floor will get refinished. The problems
with the floor resulted due to the humidity during the initial installation. In order to avoid that in the future, great care will be
taken to monitor the humidity levels in the room. We have been asked to strictly adhere to the following guidelines to maintain
constant humidity levels for the raw wood from November 29 through Commencements:
1. No water on the floor. If spills occur wipe up immediately. For any sticky/food/beverage residues please wipe up with a
damp (not wet) rag.
2. All doors must be closed as much as possible. As soon as an event begins or ends, please close the doors (including
catering doors). Humidity is a powerful force and will try to escape from the ballroom and dissipate into the building.
3. Please check with clients to keep dividers open between sections as much as possible. If we cannot keep the dividers
open, we need to prop the doors open in the dividers.
4. Humidistats will be installed on ballroom thermostats and air temperature will be connected to humidity levels in the
ballroom, so there will be times when the ballroom will be warm or cool. We cannot adjust the temperature. Please
contact Rodney Valdez for guidance.
5. We have moved as many smaller events as possible to other venues (North Ballroom and Theatre) during this time
period.
6. Keep the balcony doors closed.
Thank you for your cooperation. Hopefully, we will have beautiful finished floors by January 12, 2016!

Emergency Procedures
Supervisors: Please review emergency procedures and evacuation
plans with your staff at your next meeting. Print and post a copy for
everyone to reference. You can find this information on the LSC Web
Page under the Staff Portal: http://www.lscstaff.colostate.edu/
Everyone should know the location of the building fire alarm panel to
direct Poudre Fire Authority and CSU Police Department when an
alarm goes off. The Fire Alarm Panel is located in Room 238 which is
accessed outside of the building next to the Coke machine. Go
outside the exit doors at the north end of the SDPS offices just west
of the Women and Gender Advocacy Center on Level 200 and the fire
panel door is on the left.
Please note that the fire doors will close and you will not be able to
go through them until the emergency ends. Please exit the closest
door.
Ask people to vacate the building, but you do not have to stay with
them if they refuse to leave. Exit and relay to emergency responders
where people are still located in the Lory Student Center.
If someone is in a wheelchair during a fire alarm, please dont use the
elevators, but take them to a place of refuge and direct emergency
personnel of their location. Go to the closest refuge location on Level
100: Staircase south of Student Media and/or Staircase west of
Campus Activities and on Level 300: Top of staircase west of
Executive Directors Office; entry foyer near Grand Ballroom; and
Engineering covered bridge.
Most departments have a designated area to clear and door to patrol
during an emergency.
Building Manager: NE Plaza Doors at the Fire Alarm panel
Catering: clear servery; assist as needed for door patrols
Event Planning: clear Grand Ballroom, Lobby, Registration Booth;
