Thetford UTP | The Technical Baccalaureate 1
The Technical Baccalaureate
There is a world shortage of technically qualified computer and business specialists. Local and
national employers have unfilled vacancies every year for highly skilled technical roles. To address
this the Government launched the Technical Baccalaureate (TechBacc), as a measure of technical
excellence.
The University Technical Programme offers you the chance to achieve the TechBacc in either
Business Marketing or Computer Programming. Over 2 years to achieve you the TechBacc you will
study one AQA Technical Level, the Extended Project Qualification, and either Level 3 Mathematical
Studies with another Level 3 qualification, or A Level Maths.

Englands leading exam boards who worked in partnership with leading employers and education providers.
Each course gives in-depth technical knowledge, and requires practical application. This demonstrates to

Accreditation and Recognition
Core Maths
Many students stop studying Maths at 16 and this can prevent them from progressing onto the more highly
skilled, and better paid, technical jobs. On the Technical Programme every student will study Maths at Level
3  if you dont choose to study A Level Maths you will be offered AQA Level 3 Mathematical Studies.
The focus in Core Maths is on applying what you have learnt at GCSE Maths to real world situations: helping
you in your Business Marketing or Programming course.
In Year 12 you will study Papers 1 and 2A from AQA Level 3 Mathematical Studies, with the exams at the end
of the year.

Industrial Mentors
You will have an Industrial Mentor provided through FutureFirst and Brightside.
Industrial Mentors will be specialists in their fields, and will support you throughout your course: giving
you advice and guidance, and helping you to apply your learning to the world of work.
Masterclasses and Industrial Projects
Business Marketing Students will get industrial experience with:
Leaping Hare is Thetfords own community interest
company that runs the tourist information centre
and organises Thetfords Great Festival each year.
The collaborative project will be delivered working
with marketing and business specialists from
Leaping Hare.
Tesco is one of Britains largest companies, with
marketing and customer relations at the heart of
what they do.
Tesco managers deliver Masterclasses in
responsible business practices, customer
communication and stakeholder engagement.
Programming Students will get industrial experience with:
Norfolk has one of the larget networks of software
developers and tech startups outside London.
You will get to attend the annual Norfolk Developer
Conference [nor(DEV):con].
Lecturers from Anglia Ruskin Universitys Games
Development Programme will deliver
Masterclasses in Unreal Engine.
Technical Challenges will also be designed by the
computing experts at Anglia Ruskin.

Course Outline
AQA Technical Level Business Marketing (Course Description)
The Technical Level develops programming skills to enable students to access a range of roles in customer
services, retail marketing, corporate marketing, hospitality, event management, and public relations (PR).
Course Outline:
An introduction to the establishment, growth and survival of a business. Key concepts and
terminology of marketing and how it fits within the organisation. Understanding legal, ethical and
social concerns influencing business activities. Marketing research and the roles and functions within
this area of marketing.
There is a capstone Collaborative Project that will be developed in conjunction with industry
specialists.
Scheme of Assessment:
8 Units which must all be completed to achieve the qualification.

AQA Technical Level Programming (Course Description)
The Technical Level develops programming skills to enable students to access a range of roles in software
development, computer science and to access a Software Development Apprenticeship.
Course Outline:
The theory, practices and concepts associated with high quality professional programming solutions,
designed and developed to meet client requirements.
Students will learn how to develop software solutions for website and mobile applications, using
object-oriented design, event-driven programming, and applying fundamental programming
principles and maths for computing.
There is a capstone Industrial Project that will be developed in conjunction with industry specialists.
Scheme of Assessment:
8 Units which must all be completed to achieve the qualification.
