21st Century Skills in Lutheran Education -- One School's Journey

The term "21st Century Skills" has become such a trendy buzz phrase that for many it is devoid of meaning. Despite this, there is a growing consensus in the educational technology community that there are skills with which our students need to be prepared within the core curriculum in order for them to succeed in a global information-rich society. See how one school's first steps in working with these essential skills with their students.

While the term 21 st Century Skills has been criticized as being over used and meaningless, we have embraced the terminology by defining it in our setting.
These skills are aptitudes and abilities developed with our students that are not tied to a specific hardware or software tool.
We want these things in our school: Every student will hear about Jesus every day A strong academic curriculum tied to state and local standards We care so much about your childs future that we are intentionally integrating 21 st Century Skills into the core curriculum to best prepare them for THEIR future.
1. The ability to use technology in God-pleasing ways for ministry and personal productivity, and in keeping with good digital citizenship practices
2. The ability to analyze information and sources critically for accuracy and relevancy Wikipedia
3. The ability to communicate effectively through the spoken word Windows Movie Maker
4. The ability to communicate effectively through the written word
5. The ability to collaborate effectively with others ~ even with those whom you may not personally know
6. The ability to be self-motivated to be a life-long learner RSS Feeds
