The new social studies syllabi embed 21st century skills known as "The Big Eleven" which include utilizing text reading and writing strategies, responding to historical texts and literature, creating maps and diagrams, conducting research, interpreting primary and secondary sources, seeking varied information to develop opinions, collaborating with peers, presenting information orally and through technology, utilizing technology resources, and providing contemporary examples.
