What is Fairy Tale ? 
Simple narrative typically of folk 
origin dealing with supernatural 
beings. Fairy tales may be written or 
told for the amusement of children 
or may have a more sophisticated 
narrative containing supernatural or 
obviously improbable events, scenes 
and personages and often having a 
whimsical, satirical, or moralistic 
character.
‘The Old man and The Sea’ as a fairy tale: 
 The Santiago's life is like fairy tale 
 For eighty-four days, Santiago has set out to sea 
and returned empty-handed 
 He promised to his friend Manolin (a young 
boy) that sailing his skiff far beyond the 
island’s shallow coastal waters and venturing 
in to the Gulf Stream
‘The Old man and The Sea’ as a heroic tale: 
 It is full of adventures 
story 
 Fight with 
uncontrollable force
Killing the fish (The Marlin)
Heroism 
 In the story Santiago’s bravery is 
unsurpassed but it is until he hooks the great 
fish that we truly see his valor and 
perseverance. Though Santiago’s actions 
Hemingway teaches the reader about bravery 
and perseverance in the face of adversity.
Conclusion: 
 A Few words more, we can say that 
“The Old man and the sea” 
possesses thematic concerns like 
heroism and this novel can be 
observed as a fairy tale .
