Microsampling techniques like dried blood spots (DBS) allow for small volume samples that are stable at ambient temperatures and easy to ship. A new automated online card extraction LC/MS system from Agilent allows for reproducible, sensitive DBS analysis in about an hour, comparable to offline methods that take around five hours. The system uses robotic grippers to clamp DBS cards, extract samples, and introduce them to an LC/MS workflow via switching valves. It was shown to quantitate clozapine and related compounds down to 0.5 ng/mL in blood across a wide linear range over four orders of magnitude, with accuracy and precision similar to offline DBS methods.
