The three equally important priorities for working through breastfeeding problems are: 1) Feed the baby extra, preferably with the mother's own milk at the breast when available. 2) Protect milk production by moving extra milk out of the breast through pumping and/or hand expression. 3) Preserve the breastfeeding relationship through frequent skin-to-skin contact, which keeps the breast "on baby's mind" and helps milk production.

1. The Three (equally important) Priorities
of working through breastfeeding
problems
Ideally babies can nurse at the breast, not make a big deal out of
it, gain weight and grow. When that is not the case however:
? Feed Baby Extra
Preferably with your own milk at the breast when available.
? Protect Production
Move extra milk out of the breast through pumping and/ or hand expression.
? Preserve Breastfeeding Relationship
Frequent skin to skin keeps the breast "on baby's mind" and helps production.
