 Challenges facing smaller rural schools
o Declining population means declining school numbers
o Capitation based model of funding poses a particular problem for small schools  costs increasing  funding

o The pull to urban areas  problem attracting teachers to peripheral areas
o Reduced option choice at post primary level

well with rural delivery (in centre component)
o Consideration of digital delivery for some elements to reduce
time and costs to apprentices associated with in centre training
o Delivery of some apprenticeship in centre activity in rural
locations would contribute to local economy, and overcome
accommodation challenges experienced by apprentices
attending main, city located apprenticeship centres/campuses.
