The 560th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade was notified in October 2011 that it would not deploy to Iraq to support Operation New Dawn, as US troops were withdrawing from Iraq by December 2011. Instead, the brigade was tasked to send approximately 60-90 personnel to Afghanistan to provide signals and human intelligence support. In October/November 2011, the brigade participated in its first classified command post exercise as part of a training evaluation. It also mobilized a company in December 2011 to deploy to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
