Early detection is difficult since symptoms often do not appear until the disease has spread. Treatment is most successful when cancer is detected early through tests and may involve surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or a combination of these options depending on cancer type and stage.

FritshAlia SadekProfessor Dieter Fritsch was instrumental in establishing the German University in Cairo (GUC) in 2001. He earned his PhD in signal processing from the University of Bonn in 1982. As president of the University of Stuttgart from 2000-2006, he helped develop Stuttgart as a patron university for the GUC along with the University of Ulm. Fritsch visited Cairo frequently in the early years to advance the development of the GUC and garner support within the German and Egyptian governments.
