Ideas for Investing
in Your Teams
Professional Development8By Cory Miller

1. Give them a
challenging project or goal
Something that stretches them, something you see them being
able to tackle (even if they dont see it for themselves but add
values to the organization
2. Buy them books
Ask their preference print, digital or Audible
Sometimes I push books on others and see how they respond
will they read it? Is it something we talk about later?
3. Let them learn on the clock
This isnt 40 hours of straight learning . but could you offer 2
hours on a slow day to watch a webinar, read a book or the other
tips here?
4. Send them to a
training or conference
Again something that stretches them, or in their interest area
but also add values to your team/organization?
5. Devote time to
mentor/coach them personally
Granted this is tough. It takes time and energy. But a CEO
offering to personally take time out to even talk to a person not
directly reporting to them is GOLD.
6. Ask someone on your team to
mentor/coach them
Again takes time and energy away from another team member
but promotes cross-team collaboration and solidifies the Learn
and Grow, Teach and Share core value
7. Hire a coach
I did this for several years and the impact was huge.
8. Offer a mini-sabbatical
Especially with creatives what if you said Hey, take Friday
and go to a museum or coffee shop and read
It doesnt have to be months it could be hours, or a day, every so
often.
