- (Commodity) trader brings goods into Dubai and delivers them to the warehouse for storage and safekeeping.
- The goods are listed on DMCC Tradeflow. This is the web-based central registry for commodity ownership.
- Once listed, the trader asks the warehouse keeper to issue a receipt for the goods being stored. This receipt is actually a DMCC Tradeflow Warrant and a legal document.
- The trader is now able to use this warrant to pledge his goods to a bank by using them as collateral to underlie his trade finance loan.

- If the bank is satisfied that the debt has been settled, they will approve the release and DMCC Tradeflow will register this, thereby reflecting the trader as the full owner of the goods once more.
