Polybius was a Greek historian who was taken hostage by the Romans after a battle. As a hostage, he was given significant freedom to travel throughout the Roman Empire. Polybius focused on eliminating bias from his historical writings because he believed passions and opinions should not influence accounts of history. He was critical of bias because accurate and objective histories were important to understand how events truly unfolded.
