Tattoos in the workplace.. According to a survey of 500 employers and employees by Vault.com (a career information website)..   58% of employers would be less likely to offer a job to a tattooed [or pierced] applicant.   42% of managers said they would lower their opinions of someone based on his or her tattoos [or piercings.]
..In the workplace.. 76% of respondents believe visible tattoos are unprofessional. Vault.com/Careerbuilder Companies can enforce dress code as long as they don't discriminate based on race, color, religion, age, national origin, or gender. Ie: Turner's employee handbook says Clean and Professional  Business world is slowly opening up.. Creative Job = Flexible with appearance Less Public = More Flexible Easily covered up = Better chance

A Brief History Tattooing was one of human's first attempts at making art.  Ta - Tool used to apply tattoo.  Ink made with ashes of a specific nut, herb or plant mixed with coconut oil.. or soot.  Moko (tattoos) were made by placing a tool on the face and hitting it with a mallet.  Maori could not flinch or cry  as a matter of pride.  Green(1996)
A Brief History Samoans feel their ancestors will be dishonored if they don't get their Pe'a.  Men without Pe'a are dragged to the jungle and left there after death.  (Green 1996)  Maori women  chin tattoos signified womanhood, ability to bear children and marry.  Also, gave them speaking rights.  (Kopua 2001)  Japanese aboriginal Ainu women were outcasts without traditional lip tattoos.  (Green 1996)

Now and Then.. Tatts say so much about a person.  South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy  -In forensic pathology, tattoos may give specific identifying clues as to the social status, personality, religious affiliations, associations with organizations, sexual orientation, criminal behavior, or drug use of an individual.   In my youth, the only people who had tattoos were sailors and whores. -Vault.com survey respondent   Tattoos are a symbol of risk-taking behavior, self-harm and personality disorders -(Atkinson 2004)
These days.. 49% of adults ages 18-29 have 1 or more  17% Regret - because of the person's name in the tattoo.   I'm a different person now and Effects my job/getting a job only 2% each.  Regret higher among Republicans than Democrats  -Harris Interactive, market research (Sever, 2003)
