The document summarizes the writer's reaction to a movie about a day without Mexicans in the United States. The writer found the movie to be entertaining and enlightening as it discreetly included facts about the significant economic and cultural contributions of Mexicans. The movie portrayed how sectors like agriculture, hospitality, and many jobs in California would be affected by the absence of Mexican workers. The writer's solution would be to use unemployed Americans to fill job gaps but acknowledges the long-lasting cultural effects of losing an entire race from a country. On a personal level, the writer does not expect their life in West Virginia to be greatly impacted except possibly facing higher prices for imported goods.

A day without a mexican
1. My overall opinion of a day without a Mexican can be best described as
entertained and enlightened. Though it was meant to be corny and off color in
nature it wasnt so bad that it was painful to watch. They knew what they were
doing when they discreetly mixed in facts and stats into the story. It was really
nice to see that someone out there actually took the time to include some solid
truths and not just assumptions.
During the movie the problems that were presented were quite vast in
number but all very possible and real. The way they portrayed the economic
breakdown and the structure of many different business failing seemed a very real
threat. The fruit pickers and the hospitality business and the many jobs that are
filled in California by Mexicans going empty made me stop and think about just
how much of America is aided by the extra labor provided by Mexicans in the
workforce.
The solutions they chose were obviously not the best. Replacing the work
force with prisoners and bumsterrible idea. Pretending it didnt even happen is
probably what most people would do. The rich and wealthy would probably not
even notice until it affected them.
My solution would be to dip into the massive amount of people on
unemployment to fill the work gaps. Nothing can repair the damage on the cultural
2. aspect of the problem. Losing an entire race of people from you country will have
long lasting effects on everything. Perhaps they could teach more about the
Mexican cultures in school.
I feel like the way that losing all Mexicans would affect me would be
smaller than most. Living in West Virginia, there just arent many Mexicans
around really. I feel that West Virginias economy might take a blow when it
comes to imported products from out of state but other than that I dont think it
would really affect me personally much. I may be a little short sighted on this
subject but I cant foresee anything more than that on a personal level.
