An old man was brought in to fix a failed giant ship engine that none of the other experts could repair. He inspected the engine carefully and pulled a small hammer from his bag, tapping it gently in a certain place which instantly brought the engine back to life. When the owners received the old man's bill for $10,000 they complained it was too much for the little work he had done, but his itemized bill showed that while the physical tapping only cost $2, it was his expertise and knowledge of where to tap that was worth $9,998.
