PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: 11/2009 – Present Regional HSE Manager Aleris International, Inc.: Aluminum rolled and extruded products, recycled aluminum, and specifications alloy manufacturing with approximately 40 facilities and 7,000 employees Multiple roles as Regional HSE Manager. Led region that covered two separate business units with three sites including the largest U.S. operation. Currently leading region of seven recycle and specification alloy sites across six states. Managing, coaching and motivating seven direct reports. Responsible for the overall development, coordination and implementation of environmental (air, water, land), health and safety programs across region to assure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, state and local regulations. Leading compliance audits across the Aleris business. Subject matter expert in RRR MACT (secondary aluminum) for the recycle and specification alloy business which includes amendment rule advocacy, capital projects to ensure compliance, development of procedures both SSM and OM&M and employee training, completion of required testing, maintaining reporting requirements and the implementation of an audit program to ensure continual compliance. Proactively reduced injury frequency and severity by implementing a strong risk assessment process and workplace observation process. This has resulted in driving safety leadership and employee engagement across the business with a current recordable rate of 1.59 from a five year high of 2.41 with over 3.6 million hours injury free. 7/99 – 11/2009 Senior EHS Engineer/Environmental Engineer SABIC Innovative Plastics (formerly GE Plastics), Mt. Vernon, Indiana: Engineered thermoplastics production facility with approximately 1,300 employees Multiple roles in EHS at the Mt. Vernon site covering 20 operations. Each position resulted in more responsibility and covered a more complex area of the site. Latest positions include full EHS responsibilities for multiple operating units. Operations supported included combustion and finishing operations to chlorine, phosgene, polycarbonate manufacturing to crystalline polymer, polyethermide and nitration processes. Many of the operations were covered by PSM and RMP regulations. Responsible for maintaining communication with production personnel and regulatory agencies in relation to all areas of EHS including monitoring and recordkeeping compliance and problem resolution. Subject matter expert and leader of site programs including Title V, MON MACT, GMACT, RICE MACT, LDAR, ISO14001, SARA (Tier II/TRI), CERCLA, LOTO, Boiler MACT, Chemical Weapons Convention, SPCC and internal permit to discharge. Led compliance audits of the Mt. Vernon site and other sites within the company. MACT program responsibilities included rule development and advocacy, documented applicability assessments, leading capital projects to achieve compliance, procedure development including Startup, Shutdown and Malfunction Plans, monitoring and recordkeeping plans, and employee training. After compliance dates, completed all required testing, reporting requirements and the development of an audit program to ensure continual compliance. Led employee coaching/mentoring to improve compliance. LDAR program responsibilities included the participation in EPA and NEIC audits; program assessment and initiating a strategic improvement plan to show continual compliance with all applicable regulations. Developed program manual that managed several applicable regulations under one program including Subpart BB, Subpart VV, Subpart H and Subpart TT. Developed extensive bid document for third party contractor to follow which included an audit protocol.

Identified gaps and developed a new LOTO policy and EHS training requirements for the site that all operations successfully implemented and became the LOTO subject matter expert for the site. 5/97 – 7/99 Advanced Environmental Engineer – Air Group Leader Champion International Corporation, Canton, North Carolina: 1,620 tons per day integrated pulp and paper mill with approximately 1200 employees Developed and implemented compliance strategies for existing and future Local, State and Federal air regulations for the mill. Assisted in the development and implementation of compliance strategies for existing and future Local, State and Federal air regulations for a related extruder facility. Responsible for maintaining communication lines with production personnel and regulatory agencies in relation to air compliance requirements and issues. Completed all construction and operating permits for new and modified sources throughout the mill including air toxics evaluations and air toxics modeling. Completed and conducted QA/QC of all periodic reporting to regulatory agencies. Supervised, coordinated and completed all emission testing at the mill including eleven required emission tests per year. Supervised and trained two employees on conducting EPA method source testing. Supervised continuous emission monitor (CEM) technician and coordinated the QA/QC program for all CEM and opacity equipment, which included eight CEM’s and six opacity monitors. Coordinated the mill’s 100-meter meteorological tower. 3/92 – 5/97 Environmental Engineer – Project Manager Smith Environmental Technologies Corporation, Mobile, Alabama: Environmental Consulting Firm Project Manager in a wide spectrum of projects within the chemical industry and other industries involving both federal and state regulatory affairs. Projects associated with air quality included preparation of emission inventories; state operating permit applications and Title V permit applications. In addition, Project Manager for all Hazardous Organic NESHAP (HON) Rule projects. Responsible for all Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) Program projects including initiation and long term maintenance. Project Manager of all projects involving EPA method source testing. Projects associated with water quality included composing Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plans and NPDES stormwater permit applications. Projects associated with SARA Title III included completing Toxic Release Inventory forms. Projects associated with RCRA included hazardous waste tank certifications. Other projects included environmental assessments, compliance audit preparation and indoor air quality and industrial hygiene investigations.
