Strong winds in Romania on January 7th allowed wind turbines to produce record amounts of electricity. Wind power output reached 714 MW around noon, exceeding the output of one reactor at Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant (706 MW). With over 1,000 wind turbines installed, Romania was able to generate enough energy to power 200,000 homes from wind that day. Wind energy production helped compensate for low hydropower output due to dry conditions, effectively replacing water-based production during nights and weekends. Meteorologists warned that strong winds would continue in southern parts of the country.
