This study analyzed 7th grade students' difficulties with oral and written communication skills at La Betulia Highschool in Colombia. To address these issues, the study implemented an institutional radio station called "STUDENTS' VOICE" to provide opportunities for students to improve their speaking, writing, argumentation, and listening abilities. Surveys of teachers and principals showed unsatisfactory results that needed to be addressed. The radio station served as a complement to academic activities and included programming, local news writing, and script writing. The results demonstrated that the radio station had a positive influence on students' oral and written communication competence by allowing them to freely express ideas, concepts, and emotions.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS IN 7TH GRADE STUDENTS FROM BETULIA’S
HIGHSCHOOL IN CAUCA DEPARTAMENT.
Key words: Radio station, oral and writing communication competence, leadership.
This study was implemented after having analyzed the difficulties presented by the seventh-
grade students in terms of oral and written communication competence.
The development of this research was formulated based on the question, can the
implementation of a Highschool Radio Station serve as a strategy to improve the difficulties
regard expressing ideas through spelling and oral expressions of the seventh-grade students
in La Betulia Highschool?
To give an answer to this question, we started with the analysis of previous years, external
and internal tests, teachers and principal surveys, which showed unsatisfactory results and
the need to initiate strategies that would lead to the solution of the problem within the
Institution, taking into account that we as teachers, must look for ways to innovate with
technological resources and implement new meaningful experiences in our students in the
digital word.
Therefore, the idea came to us as a complement for academical activities, which included
instruments to take control and follow up the participation in the programming and radio
broadcast, speeches about the use of internet, writing of local news and a writing of a script.
Finally, the results of the application of these instruments are shown, according to the
schedule of activities developed, the inclusion of the radio station "STUDENTS’ VOICE"
showed a positive influence on the academic performance in students in terms of oral and
written communication competence, argumentation, listening skills and respect to each other,
since the students were able to express their ideas, concepts, thoughts, emotions, feelings and
aptitudes.
