ABSTRACT
Speaking is a very important skill for language learning focused on using
English to communicate. Games can motivate the students to speak more fluently,
reduce students’ anxiety and resulting positive attitude towards learning language also.
This study aimed to (1) study the efficiency of developing speaking skill by using game,
(2) study the effectiveness indexes of using games to improve speaking skill, (3)
compare pre and post test of English speaking skill by using speaking developed
activity by using games, (4) study students’ learning behavior by using competition
game between reinforced and non-reinforced with the reward. The sample was
Pratomsuksa 4/1 of 41 people by means of purposive sampling. The instruments used
in this experiment were learning instruments (4 lesson plans to improve speaking skill
by using games) and compilation data instruments (pre–post tests, Evaluation of
reinforced and non-reinforced with the reward’s behavior).
The results of this study reveal that (1) efficiency of developing speaking skill
by using games of Pratomsuksa 4 students was lower than the criterion, (2)
effectiveness index of using the games to improve speaking skill was 0.3213, or 32.13
%, (3) compare English speaking pre and post scores were significantly higher than pre-
test scores of the student at the 0.05 level, (4) The students’ behavior that arising from
reinforced and non-reinforced with the rewards reveals that reinforced with the
rewards was 74.39 % and non-reinforced with the rewards was 23.17 %.
The results of improving speaking skill by using games has achieved goal, the
students have a speaking development and can speak English effectively.
