2. Hepatitis.
Hepatitis is an
inflammation of the
liver
According to the
WHO, Hepatitis is
an inflammation of
the liver. The
condition can be
self-limiting or can
progress to fibrosis
(scarring), cirrhosis
or liver cancer.
5. Signs and symptoms of acute
hepatitis
fatigue
dark urine
pale stool
abdominal pain
loss of appetite
unexplained weight
loss
yellow skin and eyes
6. Ultrasound of Acute
Hepatitis
Size of liver may be
increased
Starry sky
appearance of liver
Due to hypoechoic
(decreased
Echogenicity)
texture of liver portal
trades look like more
prominent and bright.
7. Acute Hepatitis
Thick / edematous
wall of GB
Contraction of GB
even after proper
fasting
8. US liver Report Acute Hepatitis
Liver may enlarged in size
Starry sky appearance
hypoechoic in texture
Decreased echotexture
Prominent / dilated portal triads
portal radicals are dilated
Gallbladder thick walled ( more than 3
mm)
Gallbladder contracted
10. Chronic Hepatitis symptoms
In about two thirds of people, chronic hepatitis
develops gradually, often without causing any
symptoms of a liver disorder until cirrhosis
occurs. In the remaining one third, it develops
after a bout of acute viral hepatitis that persists
or returns (often several weeks later).
Symptoms of chronic hepatitis often include
malaise, poor appetite, and fatigue.
Sometimes affected people also have a low-
grade fever and some discomfort in the upper
abdomen.
Jaundice
11. Continue..
first specific symptoms occur when liver
disease has progressed and there is evidence
of cirrhosis. Symptoms can include
An enlarged spleen
Small spiderlike blood vessels visible in the
skin (called spider angiomas)
Redness of the palms
Accumulation of fluid within the abdomen
ascites
A tendency to bleed (coagulopathy)
hepatic encephalopathy
12. CLD
Persistence of biochemical abnormalities
Beyond six months is labeled as chronic
liver disease.
Most cases of chronic liver disease are
normal on sonography as it is a
histopathological diagnosis.
It is manifested only when cirrhosis
develop.
13. Ultrasound of Chronic Hepatitis
/ CLD
Ultrasound is only helpful to exclude out
Chronic hepatitis when Cirrhosis
develop
14. Cirrhosis
It is CLD associated with necrosis of liver
cells followed by fibrosis and
regenerating nodule formation. this
distorts the vascular and lobular
architecture of the liver , which can be
seen on ultrasound.
15. Ultrasound features of CLD
Coarse echotexture
Heterogeneous
echotexture
Surface nodularity
and irregularity.
17. Report
Normal / Small in size liver
Coarse in texture
Altered in texture
Irregular outer margins
Nodular outer surface
spleen enlarged
Portal hypertension may seen
Ascites is seen
