1. Learner Description
 First year learners at Vocational College (Mechanical
Engineering major)
 Just graduated from high school or secondary school
 Cannot communicate or use simple grammar
structures to produce simple sentences.
Get used to learning English which focuses more on
grammar/ not communication.
2. Course Description


Course book: Solutions - elementary

 Course outline:
 The 1st semester: communicative
English (120 periods).
 The 2nd semester: ESP (English for
Special Purpose) (60 periods)


Low English level.

No motivation in learning English.
 Focus on learning only grammatical rules to pass the
exams.


Cannot communicate in English.
 Lack basic vocational terminologies related to
workplace and work processes.

The textbook is designed to develop students
integrated skills, but is used to teach grammar only.


ESP course does not provide students enough time
and chance to apply their vocational words to
communicate.
New method

Under the light of communicative approach, this new method aims to:

increase students motivation in learning English
because the students can realize their benefits of being
able to use vocational terminologies to communicate in
English .
 improve students communication skills.

change students vocabulary which is related to their
job from passive to active words.

Unit 5:
Part F-Speaking: Making a phone call
Lessons aims and objectives:
By the end of the lesson, students can improve their
speaking skill. They can:
+ use the structure would like to ask for information
in a polite way.
+ give information.
+ practice the way to talk on the phone.
In order to gain the aims and objectives, the lesson is
originally divided into 5 main parts:
Task 1: Providing input.
This task provides
students with a model
dialogue of asking
for and giving
information.
Task 2: Grammar: would like
This task provides students with the meaning and usage
of the structure would like (a more polite way of saying
want).
Task 3: controlled practice
This task requires students to replace the words in the
dialogue and re-practice it.
Task 4 + 5: listening
This task enhances students
listening skill for details.
It also gives students the
chance to listen and
practice model sentences
of asking for and giving
information.
Task 6: free practice
This task requires students
to create a dialogue
themselves.
