AMERICAN FOOTBALL ACADEMY IN EUROPE
EUROPEAN DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
THROUGH COACHES MASSIVE EDUCATION
By the echange of good practices
Pierre Trochet
05/05/2014
American football, with already more than 150 000 players and coaches shows a very rapid
expansion in all European countries. The majority of federations and clubs are developed upon the
concepts of sport entertainment. In order to be able to offer each participant the best training
conditions whatever their level, for leisure or for international competitions, we must provide the
right means dedicated to the training and education of players as well as of coaches.Hence, our
challenge is how to ensure the learning of good practices and methods with the same level of
performance and professional dedication for a very large audience from various and distant parts
of the word. Based upon the EPPM (European Players Progression Model), we are building together
the first mass education program based upon the exchange of the best European practices for the
acquisition of the right skills. This project lays on four pillars : community, mobility, accessibility and
diversity. The main result will be the creation of the first digital learning platform, accessible to a very
large number of participants, dedicated to the disciplines of our structures and led by a panel of
European experts. The goal of this platform will to enable learning wherever you are while taking into
account the current life constraints. It will allow, thanks to both digital and real-situation forms, a
universal learning of know-how from the best mentors.

INTRODUCTION : American Football Coaches Development in the Long Term
This program is a philosophy and tool for change. It is completely centered around the athlete, from
the discovery of a physical activity during infancy to the transition to a physical practice, sports,
leisure and / or competitive adulthood and throughout life.
This philosophy provides guidelines for planning an optimal performance for all stages of athlete
development in the long-term change by his trainers education.
It identifies, empowers and engages various key partners : coaches, trainers, organization, and
management.
This program provides a general framework for player development based on growth, maturation,
increasing the ability to drive as well as its evolution in the different levels of sports facilities: clubs,
academies , national teams or programs of high-level overseas.
MISSIONS in 7 steps
1. This program is based on developing physical, mental, emotional, and cognitive development of
children and adolescents. Each step takes into account the evolution of several aspects in the
development of the player.
2. It aims to establish a basic “know-how” which builds the path of excellence.
3. To give any players training, competition or recovery program throughout their career.
4. The program meets with the project stakeholder : coaches, trainers, players, referees, team,
federations and management board
5. It highlights the link between high level sport, leisure sport and mass and physical education in
schools.
6. It creates a model of performance; training and education "made in Europe" can be identified at
all international competitions.
7. Finally it also promotes a healthy sport, demonstrating a common set of security and profesional
organization in the future.

PROGRAM ( Writing in process)
Results of a first experiment
Babu M, Sameer (2009) defines Blended Learning as a fruitful effort in integrating live
classroom activities including face-to-face instructions along with online learning and
instructions so as to reap the maximum benefits by using the best elements of all through
effective planning by an ideal facilitator.1
Our program is aiming at enlarging and enriching the first successes obtained in France in a
pevious first experience based upon a similar platform (MyPlaybook.eu). In 2013, the French
Federation of American Football has been the first significant federation (France is the third
important federation in Europe for American football) to prototype a mass learning
program, a complementary mean to the qualifications, some leading to certification or
diploma, already existing. From January to September 260 French speaking coaches
voluntarily registered for a video content library covering technical exercises up to national
technicians advice. This represents more than one hundred educational clips available which
come along conferences in Paris, Lille, Marseille, Bordeaux, Orleans,…..
