Editor's Notes

  • #5: This is the place to talk about preparing for the systems change that was anticipated to be needed in preparation for the ACA implementation today. What needed to change? How would systems build more capacity? How would they keep costs down? How would they maintain, if not, improve quality? AHF wanted to put the challenge out in the community early on to get the best ideas.
  • #6: They will have some briefs on each of the I2 awardees in the program so we dont need to go into a lot of detail here. But heres a run down: Text4baby testing health education success through text messaging One-e-app can and will an online aggregator of benefits be adopted in our community? CIE much like health systems were looking at how to share information the CIE supports social services doing the same; not only with each other but with the health systems as well UCSD Wireless Observed Therapy research and implementation of a potential game-changing technology that will increase TB cure rates and decrease risk to public health. Access Youth Academy a long term look at the network effect of achieving a college education through squash scholarships and the generational impact on future health and wellbeing in a low-income neighborhood Solutions for Change incentivizing social enterprise in a non-profit through the expansion of an aquaponics farm and subsequent contracts to sell the organic baby greens

  • #23: Thank yous: Elizabeth & AHF Trustees; James Halliday; AHF staff; UCSD volunteers! Im looking forward to moving forward with your ideas so there is definitely more to come from this work. I am definitely impressed!
  • #24: Youll hear more about the Innovation Initiative (I2) in this webinar. It is a $1M award. The Mission Support grants is also a $1M pool of capital that is awarded to organizations that are also looking to be innovative, move the needle, and impact cost, quality and/or capacity. These are grants typically between $25,000-$100,000 and are used more for core operating support. Responsive grants are under $25,000 and can be used for time sensitive matters, for leadership and operational development and for new funding opportunities that allow us to collaborate with other foundations or that present a way to support a new project to get off the ground.
  • #25: We are looking for organizations that serve these populations: People under 250% FPL, working poor, children & homeless. How you serve them advances health and wellness. What you are doing is innovative: working in collaborations, using technology, integrating care and any of these will reduce costs, improve quality or increase capacity
  • #26: Typically these projects are looking to impact a broader cross-section of our community. They are looking at bringing systemic change and most likely are working in collaboration with others. We know that there is a confluence of factors happening less $s and more people in need. So what do we need to do now to be able to provide for the people we serve? It is important to show the data that supports your idea either by supporting the actual project, or the project is designed to create the data to prove the best practice. Think of hotspotting or CIE.
  • #27: Where The project must benefit the populations of San Diego & Imperial Counties, either or.
  • #28: Timeline: Application opens today March 26 Closes May 6 2 webinars to hear this again and to ask questions: March 30 10:00-11:00 and April 3 1:30 2:30 After the Innovation Initiative closes, there is a review process with staff and the Program Committee.
