AIT is one of the founding members of the Eastern Economic Corridor of Innovation (EECi), a project initiated under Thailand's Eastern Economic Development Plan to create a science hub in ASEAN. Fifty organizations from various sectors signed agreements to participate in EECi. EECi will have two campuses, one focusing on automation, robotics, biotechnology, and another on aerospace industries. AIT also signed several partnership agreements this month with universities and organizations from Hong Kong, Japan, Austria and India to collaborate on educational programs and projects related to urban development, remote sensing, and rail engineering. An AIT alumnus from Malaysia donated 1 million Thai Baht towards an engineering scholarship at AIT.

AIT AMONG FOUNDING MEMBERS OF EASTERN
ECONOMIC CORRIDOR OF INNOVATION (EECi)

IT is among the founding signatories of the
Eastern Economic Corridor of Innovation
(EECi), a project initiated under the Eastern
Economic Development Plan that focuses on creating a
science hub in the ASEAN region.
Fifty organizations from academia, national and interna-
tional research organizations, governmental bodies, and
the private sector are signatories to EECi. AIT was led
by President Prof.Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai at the event.
The agreement signing ceremony took on 5 April 2017
at the U-Tapao InternationalAirport in Rayong Province.
General Prayuth Chan-o-cha, the Prime Minister ofThai-
land graced the occation. Thailands Minister of Science
and Technology, Dr. Atchaka Sibunruang said that the
National Science and Technology Development Agency
( NSTDA) has been tasked by the Ministry to establish
EECibyforgingapartnershipwithvariousorganizations.
EECi will be spread across two campuses with the
1200-acre Wang Chan Valley Campus comprising of
ARIPOLIS (for automation, robotics, and intelligent
systems) and BIOPOLIS (for life science and biotech-
nology). Another 48-acre campus called Space Kreno-
vation Park (SKP) will be located in Sriracha, Chon-
buri Province, and it will specialize in the aeronautic
and aerospace industry.

MTRAcademy, Hong Kong, andAITwill jointly develop and deliver
a postgraduate level pilot subject on Rail SystemAdministration and
Management. The two will also explore the possibility of develop-
ing a full Masters program in Rail System Engineering and Manage-
ment. This follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) between MTRAcademy andAIT on 4April 2017.
TheMoU was signedbyMr.MorrisCheung,President,MTRAcade-
my, and Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, President,AIT. Mr. Cheung
was accompanied by Dr. Mark Ho, Deputy Dean of MTRAcademy.

MoU with Meiji University
AIT and Meiji University have signed a Memorandum of Under-
standing (MoU) to foster collaboration. The MoU was signed by
Prof. Keiichirou Tsuchiya , President, Meiji University, and Prof.
Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, AIT President on 10 April 2017.
Meiji University has established its ASEAN Center in Bangkok,
where Dr. Hiroyuki Konuma, Senior Adviser to AIT President,
serves as Director. The Japanese Government has approved a
proposal by Meiji university to promote urban development program
among CLMV (Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam) countries
and Thailand. AIT and Meiji University will explore modalities
of collaboration to promote sustainable solutions to the impacts of
urbanization. The MoU signing was also witnessed by Prof. Kosaku
Dairokuno, Vice President for International Collaboration, Meiji
AIT signs MOU with University of Salzburg
AIT has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Uni-
versity of Salzburg,Austria. The agreement was signed byAIT Presi-
dent Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai on 7 April 2017.
AIT and the University of Salzburg will work towards finalizing a
dual degree program in Remote Sensing and GIS. Discussions were
held with Prof. Josef Strobl, Director, Z_GIS, University of Salz-
burg. Also participating in the deliberations were Prof. Nitin Kumar
Tripathi, Director, Special Degree Programs; Mr. Shawn Kelly, Di-
rector, Office of External Relations (OEXR), and Mr. Karma Rana,
Institute Secretary.

AIT alumnus from Malaysia, Mr. Tan Chin Nyan
has donated 1 Million THB towards a Masters de-
gree scholarship atAIT. The donation was received
by AITs Vice President for Administration, Prof.
Kazuo Yamamoto on 11 April 2017 in Kuala Lum-
pur. He was accompanied by Mr. Sanjeev Jayas-
inghe, Director, Office of Advancement.
Mr. Tan Chin Nyan graduated in Structural Engi-
neering and Construction (SEC) in 1986. Applica-
tions for the scholarship for Structural Engineering
Program have already commenced. Earlier, Mr.

and scientific research organizations. Funding for the
fellowships is provided by the NSRC and Internet2.

Sharma graduated from AIT with a Masters in
Water Resources Engineering in 1983. BBMB
is the managing authority of the Bhakra Dam,
which is one of the highest gravity dams in the
world. It was widely described as a temple of
modern India, when it was constructed in the
1960s.
Tan Chin Nyan had also contributed 1 Million THB towards the AIT library modernization campaign.
